How does ABTA really protect you and do they actually help you in that moment of crisis? Let's take a look.....

What is ABTA?

ABTA is an association which only accepts members who follow a Code of Conduct. This means that all members registered should meet all of the criteria to be a member, therefore giving the consumer peace of mind because members must continually follow the Code of Conduct. All officially registered members are monitored and if approved are giving a registration number.

ABTA's main aim is to give customers confidence to book and travel with their members because of the strict rules and regulations all members have to follow. The rules cover areas such as accurate advertising, making changes to bookings and managing customer complaints. Any member of ABTA that steps out of line and breaks these rules can be disciplined by the ABTA committee and where necessary members can be fined and even dismissed from membership.

Sometimes things don't always go to plan when travelling, so how does ABTA help?

ABTA can help if you have contacted the travel agency you booked your holiday with and are struggling to resolve the issues. ABTA have a fast, cost-effective and independent complaints resolution service, which can save both parties time, money and hassle.

A customer who has booked a package holiday with an ABTA member has instant access to a range of advice services and help pages for guidance and information.

All package holidays sold by ABTA members are financially protected. This means that you are covered if a company goes bust. ATOL covers all fight-based packages to cover flight costs.

You can also get travel advice and tips from the ABTA website. You can get all the latest travel alerts by visiting the ABTA website before you travel. You can also get up-to-date travel advice for the country you are travelling to on the FCDO Website.

ABTA also offer advice on your rights, for example, if a flight is cancelled or delayed or if government travel restrictions are announced.
